Claudin-3 is a member of the claudin family of tight junction proteins encoded by the CLDN3 gene. It is an integral membrane protein with four transmembrane helices, two extracellular loops, and cytoplasmic N- and C-terminal tails that contribute to tight junction strand formation and cell-cell barrier organization. Claudin-3 is expressed in a range of epithelial tissues where it helps regulate paracellular permeability, maintenance of polarity, and intercellular adhesion. Its localization at tight junctions supports epithelial barrier integrity in organs such as gastrointestinal and reproductive tissues.
