CD27 is a member of the tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily encoded by the CD27 gene. It is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein with extracellular cysteine-rich domains characteristic of TNF receptor family members and an intracellular region that mediates signal transduction through TRAF adaptor proteins. CD27 is expressed mainly on T cells, memory B cells, subsets of NK cells, and hematopoietic progenitors, where interaction with its ligand CD70 promotes lymphocyte activation, survival, proliferation, and differentiation. Surface expression can be regulated through activation-dependent shedding and internalization.
